Inside the Stewbot workshop
All Stewbot sculptures are made in the UK by their original creator, Stewart Sutters who works from a purpose made studio workshop on the Essex coast. Every single Stewbot is made from scratch by Stewart who never moves away from his natural love and affinity of natural wood. He see’s every timber type and grain variation as distinct and characterful opportunities to explore forms and test new boundaries.
What started as an innocent ambition to make a simple wooden robot as a gift for his Grandson has led to greater things.
The now famous little wooden robot design has enabled Stewart to bring together the driving passions of his life - art, design and wood craft - into producing a loveable character who makes friends wherever he goes.
Due to their hand crafted nature, Stewbot models are one-offs made using selected timbers. Consequently, they are produced with love and care in small numbers and never mass produced in bargain basements - that’s the way Stewart likes to work and will continue to work. Stewart’s studio workshop is rather like the man himself - modest and understated, yet powerfully driven, well focused and highly capable.
